Time to show you what we've seen in day 4 of our stay in Hanover at the 2009 CeBIT expo..
GeIL, the famous and specialized memory manufacturer, naturally had a stand at the 2009 CeBIT expo. An what a stand! Probably the most crowd gathering ever. Many of you might know of GeIL and their top memory modules for gamers and enthusiasts. The company has more than 15 years of experience in this line of business and is oftenly quoted as technology innovator, and were about to find why. Ar the expo, GeIL, besides showing all of their products, made sure that ca crowd would be present - simply by arranging question games for Play Station 3, in which the participants could win memory modules or smaller prizes. Each time we passed around the GeIL booth camp, we saw a large crowd.
GeIL were more than kind and showed all of the details for each of their products. The most interesting for us was their new memory manufacturing technology - DBT (Die-hard, Burn-in Technology). The manufacturing process is very strict and GeIL have noticed that modules that become unstable, do reveal that within the first few days after being put to work. Should nothing happen within that period, the modules will surely work for years on without any problem, provided they are used under specified voltages and frequencies. In order to avoid the group of modules that fail within the first days, GeIL had created a special module in their factory allowing them to install 1000 RAM modules in it and test them with their own software under extreme conditions for 24 hours. Should the modules cause no problems the possibility to do that at later time is insignificantly small. The heavy Burn-in test was never common for mainstream memory, only for special server ones. GeIL are the only ones that do that and have assured us that DBT have lowered the percentage of returned due to defects modules by much. The newest GeIL machine in which the burn-in stress tests are done (EVO III IC Tester) is fully automated - so there is no need for anyone to put in or remove the modules by hand. The production line automatically inserts the modules in the slots, removes the one defecting within 24 and the rest are forwarded for packaging and distribution. All GeIL modules pass through DBT.
Gaming and overclocking GeIL memory include not one or two series. GeIL Black Dragon, Ultra, XMP - are series with or without the famous heatpipe Evo One cooling - they were all there. The models varied between DDR2 800MHz and DDR3 2000MHz. Something for every budget and need :)
The "Green" is in style. Nowadays everyone and their grandma are trying to show how eco-friendly they are. The moto of the expo in fact was green too. Still, though everyone presents "green" products, thats not entirely true and many are simply the well known ones with a new box and some stickers. GeIL Green DDR2 memories however are something different. These are the first DDR2 modules capable of working at 1.5V, and that's 20% less than the JEDEC standard. Even more, the GeIL marketing official at the expo had complained that they've been unable to find a motherboard capable of running them at 1.5V. The only one they found was only close to the desired voltage and supplied 1.54-1.55V.
GeIL Cyclone is the new active cooler of the company, ready to be used with any GeIL module(or even with other brand modules, although GeIL give no warranty that it will be compatible with just any memory radiator from other brands). The cooler is lit in blue and on it with the aid of LED technology the temperature of the modules is displayed. If nothing else it looks attractive. The directly blowing fan must be doing something good :)
GeIL impressed us with many things, considering they are specializing in memory modules and offer no other products. The DBT technology is something unique for the common users - and if you buy GeIL modules you can be sure that the chance of getting a defective on e is nonexistent. At the same time that apparently does not affect the price of the modules too much, since they are available at very reasonable sums for such mass available product. We hope to be able to soon review for you few pairs of GeIL modules. They do deserve our attention.
